Agar-agar is a natural gelling substance. It is produced from Rhodophyta, extracted mainly from the shores of Japan (for example from underwater plantations).
Application
– as a highly swelling substance used in the form of a gentle laxative (causing swelling of food in the intestines),
– gelling agent in production plants,
– in photography (in the production of photosensitive emulsions),
– in chemistry (electrolytic keys, galvanic cells),
– in pharmacy (swelling agent, gelling agent and beginner disintegration of tablets),
– in cosmetics
– neutral primer for media used for bacterial cultivation in microbiological laboratories and in vitro cultures in biotechnology laboratories.
Accepted in small amounts, agar is harmless.
