Potassium hydroxide

Potassium hydroxide (caustic potash), KOH is an inorganic chemical compound that belongs to hydroxides. This is one of the strongest rules.

By default, potassium hydroxide is a white solid. In the form of a reagent, it is usually produced as fragile, crystalline and soft flakes or granules with about 15% water content. It has hygroscopic properties – larger than sodium hydroxide. It is very soluble in water, and the dissolution process is strongly exothermic. The solution called potassium lye has a strongly alkaline reaction. Potassium hydroxide and its aqueous solution absorb carbon dioxide from the air, which results in the formation of potassium carbonate. For this reason, these substances should be stored in sealed containers. Potassium hydroxide is highly corrosive and can cause severe burns. After ingestion, the esophagus and stomach may burn and may even perforate.
