CaO - an inorganic chemical compound from the group of basic oxides containing calcium on the second oxidation stage.
At room temperature, this compound is a white, fine-crystalline body. Calcium oxide has hygroscopic properties. It is bound abruptly with water to form calcium hydroxide, with heat being released.
It is used in construction (as a mortar), in metallurgy, in the glass and ceramic industry.
It is also used as an insecticide (insecticide), as a fertilizer in agriculture (increases soil pH) and for carbide production.
On the laboratory scale is used, among others for obtaining ammonia and as a dehydrating agent.
