Sodium salicylate, C6H4 (OH) COONa (Natrium spiricum) - an organic chemical compound, salicylic acid sodium salt.
It is used as an anesthetic and antipyretic. Sodium salicylate also acts as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory preparation (NSAID), induces apoptosis in cancer cells and necrosis. Sodium salicylate is a potential replacement for aspirin for organisms that are allergic to the substance.
The compound dissolves well in water. It is used in pyrotechnics, as an analytical reagent, and also in pharmacy.
It acts as a solubilizer for other substances, contributes to their solubility.
Has anesthetic, analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, it inhibits platelet aggregation, has a strong anti-hyperactivity, weakly calming effect, cholagogue and diuretic.
Externally used in low concentrations (up to 0.5%) it moisturizes the skin, while in high concentrations (up to 10%) it exfoliates it.
It is used for iontophoresis, cosmetics, dermatology and ophthalmology.
