Potassium chloride is a product of natural origin.
It is used as a substitute for sodium chloride (NaCl) in many industries: for example in the production of products, thickener, stabilizer and preservative. Both essential minerals KCl (potassium chloride) and NaCl (sodium chloride) are very similar to each other chemically.
Potassium chloride provides the necessary potassium needed for many metabolic processes. Potassium is an element necessary for the proper functioning of living organisms. In the form of chloride it is used to supplement deficiencies of this element. It is often mixed with kitchen salt (sodium chloride) to neutralize the bitter aftertaste. Addition of thaumatin 1ppm to potassium chloride (low-calorie sweetener, taste modifier) reduces the bitter aftertaste.
