Dextrins are starch hydrolysis products. They are mixtures of substances with varying degrees of breakdown of the starch molecule. Their production consists in heating dry potato flour at a temperature of approx. 200 ° C with or without acids. The common feature of dextrins is the insolubility in alcohol - they are precipitated out of an aqueous solution with alcohol.
Application
Yellow dextrin is used for molding sands with small and medium castings. It is used in the paper, foundry, printing and other industries. Used in the production of adhesives (adhesive tapes, envelopes, etc.) and stiffening, and also used as a thickener, stabilizer and binding agent. This substance can be used as a solution or in a dry form. This is the most popular binder used in pyrotechnics. Yellow dextrin is used in non-toxic office adhesives with a sweet taste and in cheap plastic masses (eg for the production of disposable ecological dishes).
