Application of iron chloride:
- in the metallurgy for the processing of copper and silver ores,
- in wastewater treatment and treatment of drinking water in the form of a coagulant,
- mortar in dyeing,
- etching PCBs,
- drying agent in chemical reactions,
- a catalyst for the reaction of ethene with chlorine (direct product is dichloroethene),
- in the process of acquiring vinyl chloride being a monomer for the production of PVC,
- developer for sympathetic ink for texts written with salicylic acid.
Iron (III) chloride is harmful, and even death may result in death. The lethal dose LD50 (oral rat) is 900 mg / kg. Vomiting occurs after ingestion, and this substance is toxic to the kidneys and liver. Its contact with the skin and mucous membranes causes irritation, especially strong in the eyes. Iron (III) chloride is a highly caustic substance, therefore it should only be used with appropriate protective clothing.
